We are thrilled to announce that we've chosen the official name of the new University of Cape Town Institutional Data Repository, powered by Figshare for Institutions.

  • Winning name: ZivaHub
  • Tagline: Open Data UCT

Well done to the winner, Thandeka Chehore, who suggested the winning name, with the following explanation:

"Ziva means 'to know' in shona and the repository is a means of sharing and collaborating on knowledge creation and cultivation."

The panel of judges agreed that the winning name is catchy, memorable and relevant, embracing our African identity.

The name was unveiled at the official launch of the repository, which took place at UCT Libraries on Tuesday 24 October.

More about ZivaHub: Open Data UCT

The UCT Institutional Data Repository (UCT IDR), powered by Figshare for Institutions, is available to all students and staff at UCT. This new service is an online repository, providing access to the supplementary research data that inform scholarly outputs hosted on other platforms, such as OpenUCT.

The UCT IDR allows you to make your research data citable, shareable, discoverable, and reusable. Some of its key features are:

  • Get DOIs for your research outputs
  • Comply with NRF and other funder requirements
  • Control how your research outputs are accessed
  • Validate and authenticate your research outputs
  • Increase citations and boost your research metrics
