The collection represents the work of eleven South African documentary photographers who were considered relatively unknown and "underexposed" at the time. 

The photographers included in ‘Underexposed’ are: Arthur Bolton, Basil Breakey, Anne Fischer, Jenny Gordon, David Hemson, Daniel Morolong, Cedric Nunn, Graeme Williams, Jansje Wissema, and Gisèle Wulfsohn.

The collection features a variety of subjects, including South African political protests, family life, leisure pursuits, rural and impoverished social conditions, and working conditions.
