The National Freshwater (Inland) Wild Capture Fisheries Policy for South Africa "seeks to provide for a national legal framework for the promotion and regulation of inland freshwater fisheries across all provinces.  At present, inland freshwater fisheries is regulated in fragmented manner across the provinces and in some instances, fishers’ right to inland fishing resources are not adequately recognised, promoted or regulated."
