The Final draft national tourism sector strategy has been published for comment. This Strategy is the result of a review of the 2011 National tourism sector strategy. "The NTSS focusses on inclusive growth, which must fundamentally be based on domestic and international tourist market growth and expenditure increases. While the national tourism marketing agency, South African Tourism (SA Tourism) has a detailed methodology for identifying priority markets, the NTSS further links the marketing plans to broader development imperatives, including addressing barriers to growth and the building of a transformed and inclusive tourism economy. This growth will, by the values that drive South Africa as a developmental state, be inclusive, responsible and sustainable. It will also be underpinned by an awareness of the imperative of the wise use of scarce resources.

Tourism is a partnership between the public and private sectors. The NTSS focuses on harnessing the strengths of the public and private sectors to ensure alignment, the sensible use of resources, as well as drawing on pragmatic planning and prioritisation. While many areas warranting focus and enhancements exist within the tourism economy, the strategy identifies priority actions for implementation in the short, medium and long term."
