The Government Publications Department is primarily a reference library, not a lending library because our collection consists of primary source materials.

You may borrow loan copies only (if available) of books and periodicals for 7 or 3 days.

We have loan copies (i.e. duplicate copies) for mostly South African national government publications. We usually do not have loan copies of publications of other countries or international governmental organisations.

Pre-1910 publications are neither for loan nor photocopying.

Books and periodicals in heavy use may be placed in the main Short Loans Centre.

You may use most books and periodicals (not pre-1910) elsewhere in the Library when the Government Publications Department is closed.

Please request the items before we close. These items may not be taken out of the Library. They must be placed in the returns box at the entrance to our Department.
