In the spring of 1962, on 24 September, the University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Brand van Zyl Law Library opened its doors with a clear course of action: to serve students and academics in UCT’s Faculty of Law.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the Jagger Library fire are two unprecedented situations that foreground the latest Library Annual Report. Snapshots of the salvage and recovery operations and our teaching and learning efforts are also shared.

On Saturday, 8th October 2022, the University of Cape Town hosted its very first #FutureUCTGraduateDay. It’s purpose? To dangle as many carrots from just as many sticks into the eager hands of prospective students.

The compilation of a two-year report provided an opportunity to reflect on our ability to migrate from functioning as a contact-based academic library in 2019 to a virtual library service when confronted with the global COVID-19 pandemic.

This report provides a detailed overview of the University of Cape Town Libraries' initiatives, challenges, and achievements during the 2022/2023 reporting period.
