Cape Higher Education Library Network (CHELiN) Members

All registered staff and students of the Universities of Cape Town, Stellenbosch (SUN) and the Western Cape (UWC) and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) are considered CHELiN members and may access their libraries free of charge. Learn more about access at these institutions.

What materials may be requested?

  • Photocopies of journal articles
  • Conference papers
  • Chapters of books

Books may be requested by South African libraries who belong to the South African Interlending Scheme only. UCT does not lend books or theses to international requesters.

Loan Period

Books are loaned to other South African libraries for 3 to 8 weeks, depending on the section of the Libraries supplying the book.

No renewals are granted.

Fees

South Africa

Local requests are charged according to the South African Interlending Scheme rates. 

International

International requests are charged $20 via OCLC IFM (or minimum of 2 IFLA vouchers) for photocopies of journal articles or conference papers (less than 20 pages).

How to obtain UCT theses and dissertations

Check OpenUCT for a digital copy of the thesis you need.

University of Cape Town theses and dissertations do not circulate internationally, however you may obtain a digital copy of UCT master's dissertation or doctoral thesis by emailing Digital Library Services.
