UCT Libraries warmly invites you to the launch of "Scholarly and Research Capabilities: A Guide to Student Success", a monograph written by UCT Libraries.

This monograph focuses on advancing equity and student success within the South African higher education landscape. It emphasises the importance of fostering a more inclusive, student-centred learning environment within locally relevant frameworks to better support students’ diverse needs and the evolving demands of higher education. This modular, point-of-need approach aligns with students' evolving scholarly requirements, from undergraduate orientation to advanced postgraduate research. The framework ensures that interventions are timely, practical, and directly linked to students’ academic needs, fostering engagement and retention, ultimately toward student success.

Please note that the operating hours of the Chancellor Oppenheimer Library, Bongani Mayosi Health Sciences Library, and the Brand van Zyl Law Library will be extended from Wednesday 28 October to Sunday 22 November 2026. 

The detailed breakdown is as follows:

Wednesday 28 October–Sunday 22 November (Consolidation & Examinations):

• Monday–Friday: 08:00–24:00
• Saturday: 09:00–17:00
• Sunday: 09:00–17:00

Extended hours: Bongani Mayosi Health Sciences Library

Wednesday 28 October–Sunday 22 November (Consolidation & Examinations):

• Monday–Thursday: 08:30–22:00
• Friday: 08:30–17:00
• Saturday: 09:00–17:00
• Sunday: 09:00–17:00

Extended hours: Brand van Zyl Law Library

Wednesday 28 October - Sunday 22 November (Consolidation & Exam):

• Monday–Thursday: 08:00–24:00
• Friday: 08:00–17:00
• Saturday: 09:00–17:00
• Sunday: 09:00–17:00

The 24/7 study spaces in Hlanganani, the Knowledge Commons, Impilo Junction, and the Law Library will be in operation when those libraries are closed. The above arrangements also mean that those three libraries will be open on the Sundays of 01, 08, 15, and 22 November 2026.

Vacation hours will begin on Monday 23 November.

Please note that the Science Learning Centre (SLC) and the Library Learning Lounge on Level 4 of the Chris Hani building will be closed from Monday 2 November 2026 to Wednesday 30 December 2026, due to a building project.

• Expect noise and disruption in and around the Chris Hani building, especially from 3 to 14 November.
• Please use the Main Library or the Snape Library Lounge for studying during this time.
