The Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA) is celebrating South African Library Week (SALW) with the theme "Libraries: telling powerful stories” from 20-26 March 2023.

Published Collections: Our Ongoing Recovery - Nearly Two Years On
Nearly two years on, significant gains are evident during the recovery and rebuilding of our African Studies and Rare Books collections. Our goal is to enable access to users during this interim period, albeit in a small way.
Humans have told stories for as long as we can remember. These stories are used to share news, amplify the accomplishments of heroes, and pass on cultural traditions, and transfer knowledge and history. Libraries have been central in collecting, preserving and sharing these stories. - LIASA
Social Media
Stories make difficult information easier to understand. Stories can change the future for the better. This year we are focusing on telling those stories, both from a librarian and library user’s perspective, focusing on the achievements of libraries in South Africa over the years, as libraries transform to fit into the New World. - LIASA

Built Environment Library

I am the Built Environment Library and I have earned a reputation for the beautiful drawings I have of buildings; buildings that educate, buildings of hope, buildings that heal and many more. I am a space for students to work while enjoying the spectacular view of the trees and mountains. One of my secret talents is exhibiting the incredible drawings and models by architecture students for the pleasure of my daily visitors. Come spend the day with me and get to know me more!
WH Bell Music Library

I'm the WH Bell Music Library and I'm the first completely self-contained, functionally-designed music library in Africa. I opened on 1 August 1943, so I'll be turning 80 years old this year! I am a branch library serving the departments of Music and Dance. Located next to the South African College of Music and nearby School of Dance, I’m here to help you make the best use of the library resources and collection. When you enter the doors you become performers, composers, teachers, musicologists, choreographers... and much more.
Bolus Herbarium Library
Caption
Started by amateur botanist Harry Bolus in 1865. Bolus herbarium was established in the 1900’s. I have an extremely priceless rare books collection of handwritten documents and images of plants covered in special wooden cases. I also house an extensive collection of Taxonomic books.

Brand van Zyl Law Library

I am the Brand van Zyl Law Library, and I celebrated my 60th anniversary in September 2022. I have earned a reputation for being one of the most well stocked academic law libraries in the country. The magnificent collection is housed in a building embedded in the Law Faculty, which makes it easier for students and academics to access the collection. The collection consists of a plethora of highly cited academic law books, academic journals and of course the Law Reports from South Africa, some African countries and abroad. As you know the Law Reports holds all the cases or judgements heard at the various courts in that particular country.
